Title: cleaning question
Post by: fuzzyL on March 31, 2019, 06:15:06 PM
we did it at home for years and our cleaning numbers were always 1.8 or 1.9 yet the Dr. wanted me to do a whole extra session per week to get it to 2.0--then my wife hurt her hand and im in a clinic and the cleaning is at best 1.7 and thats fine by them--whats the deal-i resent that they wanted a whole extra session when those lower numbers are fine for the clinic

Looking at the results sheet for monthly testing they give us, clearance of 1.2 is acceptable and 1.4 or greater is optimal. I have never hit a 2.0, though usually it is somewhere between 1.75 and 1,95.

If you are using the NxStage cycler, the goals for home and the center are different because the machines are different. The machines at the center are bigger and clean a little differently or more per cycle of blood running thru them. I know I am not explaining it properly but hopefully you get the jist of it. That is why you have to use the NxStage for more days. Maybe shorter runs but usually for more days than in center. I think you can read about this either under the General Discussion area on this site or Home section (perhaps under the subject of KT/V) ?

As frustrating as it may be, try not to get too upset. This shouldn't happen very often, I'm sure your numbers will be acceptable again soon. They want to help make sure you are getting your blood cleaned out enough. They also have to show this in their records or else they get in trouble by Medicare auditors.
