I'm really constipated and I'm afraid it's going to cause lots of (PD) alarms if I can't get on top of it. I already took a softener and a senna pill this morning, but so far no action and lots of gas. I need some suggestions. Thanks

That citrate stuff they use before a colonoscopy should work, just shouldn't need the whole bottle. Or maybe milk of magnesia.
-
tea. One cup of strong tea without any milk or sweetener. It's hard to take if you're not used to it, but it should work with what you've already taken to get things moving. It's not instant, but it works.

miralax, comes as a generic that is cheaper. doesn't cause cramping and not 'addictive'. just draws water into colon. I took a capful a day mixed in cold or hot beverages to keep things regular while I did PD.
-
Ever think of asking your nephrologist?
-
I don't know what the US versions of these are called, but when Mum was on PD, she was taking sachets of Movicol, and two Senekot tablets at night...
Did the job for her!...
Hope you get it sorted out...

Made some very small progress today. Lots more to come. I feel like a stuffed pig,

I;m confused. I have a Miralax knockoff (from Walgreen's) and it clearly says on the bottle:"Do not use is you have kidney disease without doctor's orders." Does that not concern anyone?
-
You should ask your nephrologist. My PD nephrologist and the transplant team both were aware I take miralax daily and never expressed any concerns. I checked webmd and it does say to ask your doctor if you have renal disease-probably the possibility exists that if you overdid it and became dehydrated, that's bad for kidneys. My understanding is that it works by drawing water into the colon, doesn't really get into the blood system. Best of luck.

The die is cast. I have already taken the Miralax. Here's hoping.
-
I use Miralax in my coffee every morning. I call it my creamer. Anyway! Nephorolgist recommended. Works!
Hope you feel better soon.

Thank you, Rerun. I am feeling better altho now I've moved to the overly loose stage. Sorry for TMI.

Two heaping teaspoons in your coffee every morning is perfect. Is it addictive? Well, only if $hitting is addictive. TMI
-
But I don't drink coffee.

It must be, because I cannot give it up! :)
