Title: Server attacked

Another website hosted on this server was attacked by some person(s) in China coming in on various IPs attempting to spam the comment section on a website.   We also had attempts from Russia.  While they did not get in, the effect was to bog down server performance to the point of unusability.

The firewall for this server has been updated to exclude China and Russia.   Please let me know if this induces any weeping, wailing to gnashing of teeth.  Thanks.

Well, I am glad I don't live in Russia anymore then at least for this reason.  ???

If we have Russian friends using this, I will unblock either the country or their IP.

Can you check past postings by Ukrainian Track Suit to make sure she isn't blocked?

I think she is in that half of the world.

Ukranian has posted since the config change.   I'm thinking of using Cloudflare and let them handle the ddos protection for me.

Thank you.  I continue scanning all IP addresses for spammers before I register anyone.  I know a lot try but I delete them.

I reactivated China at the request of the primary server user, and turned on Russia as well.   I locked down the "comment" feature in the wordpress block and the spammers have lost interest in flooding the server.  For now at least.

An advantage of being on this server is that about a dozen people make their living off the funding client's website.  That means that any necessary resource will be brought to bear if there is a server issue.  I've got leeway to host low volume sites like this one and lifenotonthelist in return for some of the tech work I do for that firm.
