Yay!! Jenna’s Kidney-swap donor Gary arrived in Pasadena today to get ready for the Donate Life Rose Parade Float on New Year’s Day!
Jenna spent nearly 5 years on dialysis, with 100% antibodies, waiting for a match. The wait for a kidney transplant is over 10 years here in Los Angeles. If it weren’t for people like Gary, who are willing to go through surgery to save another person’s life, people like Jenna might not live long enough to get a transplant. He gave his kidney to a stranger so Jenna could get one in return. So grateful for his sacrifice and support for Jenna! I always cry when the Donate Life float goes by. It bring awareness to Gary's story as an example of a healthy living donor - and also to the fact that there are still nearly 100,000 Americans waiting for a kidney transplant. There are many more participants, you can read about them here https://www.donatelifefloat.org/wp/2019-gary-frey/
