Post by: jambo101 on November 23, 2018, 04:17:25 AM
for the last 6 months i.ve been having problems sleeping its like i sleep in 3 hour stretches then wake up for 3 hours and repeat the cycle, seems i get very congested and short of breath after about 3 hours and need to get up,i'm assuming it has something to do with my kidney failure. any one else experience sleep disorders that can be attributed to kidney failure?

You should notify your doctor. Hopefully you are not getting fluid build up in the lungs. That would be a ticket to a hospital stay.

I brought the subject up with my nephrologist last week,we did a chest Xray and found no fluid build up.

I slept in a recliner the year before starting dialysis. When I laid down in the bed I felt I couldn't breath.

I'm not sure why it happens, but I think sleep issues are very common among kidney people. I've had sleep issues for a while.  First I couldn't fall asleep.  Then I would wake up in the middle of the night.  Now I use medical marijuana (Indica type) and that helps me fall asleep.  I still wake up more frequently and earlier than I'd like, but I think some of it has to do with PD.  When I'm in a dwell stage of one of my nightly exchanges I get very full of UF and that wakes me up.
