I have numerous heart issues (A Fib, heart block and now calcified mitral valve. Doc tells me it's a direct result of the bone mineral disorder that afflicts all of us on dialysis. The imbalance between Phosphorus and Calcium. Doc says that maybe in 5 years it will need replacing.
Anyone else with this issue?

5 years? To me that would be good news!
No I don't have it yet. My bones are bad but I don't know where the calcium went. I think my skin. It feels like a sucko wall.

I have bone density issues. Where it has gone? I don't know yet.
pTh is finally down from 1300. Cut Sensipar by a third as pTh was under 200, still very low so cut back one of the Vit D's that I take. Will have to wait and see what the next couple months llabs look like.
Jury is still out as to where mineralization can/will occur. As it could precipitate and deposit evenly throughout the body OR it could localize deposits. Soo many unknown factors yet. You could easily say we are ALL science studies. We have soo much yet to learn.
I pray that it will be a very long time before your valve needs intervention. And by then Dr's will have learned far more, like a diet that will actually make us better.
I truly Believe that all things exist for our benefit. That plants are key to health. Sadly we have forgotten which plants to use for each condition.
We ate and got sick. We need to eat correctly to get well. Simple, Right?

I have had surgery on both my mitral and tricuspid valves, but I don't think it was due to calcification. Inquire whether it must be replaced or can be repaired. Mine were able to be repaired. If they had to be replaced, pig parts would be used and I think some type of medication would be required. Also, the procedure would have to be repeated every 10 years or so, if my memory is correct.
Keep monitoring your status and check with your medical team about all possible options!

Thank you, Tio Rinon. I'm not sure a distinction was made about repairing vs. removing. But open heart surgery was mentioned and I didn't like the sound of that. I will also need, perhaps, the Watchman Device procedure where they can go in through a vein/artery and use a camera. Can't do that for the mitral valve. :banghead;

A friend of mine had pig parts used for valve replacement Tio. They worked good, but had to be replaced every few years.
