Today during treatment...a cockroach crawls 9n my chair. I know thesr are unsanitary I cannot afford to live like this. I told the nurse she tried to kill it but it got away. I dont wanna go to my next treatment what should I do. The nursed also said someone mustve brought it in because a majority of people bring bags. I was on the lazy side and never brought anything but myself. Should i call the iffice on monday? Also i have the flu so lifes great.

Any commercial building can have bugs. Roaches are the easiest and safest vermin to kill. A treatment with borax powder will eliminate the pests. The nurses suggestion of how the roach arrived is very likely but if your skives are still active ask when the next extermination of pests will be done.
-
What are skives?
-
That crawley feeling you get when you find something gross.
-
Oh i got plenty of those, its torture. I dont think ill ever be able to relax
-
Should i clean my chair before going in...i dont want weird looks. Should I call them on monday and ask what has been done about it? I dont want to sit in the same chair
-
Who are you wanting to call. If the exterminator, then I imagine that would be up to the clinic 'cause who's going to pay for it. You have to expect bugs and stuff in buildings especially when folks bring food in and drop crumbs. Not a big deal. Just ignore them.

At my center on another shift there was someone who would whipe down both the chair and machine with bleach before each session. The staff provided the supplies. Also some people covered the chair with those paper sheets that are put under your treatment arm.
So I think they would be ok if you asked if you could clean the chair before treatment.
Other people or a person brought in sheets to cover the chair.

Obviously I would call the clinic and I guess Ill clean down my chair with lysol wipes but that doesnt contain bleach Im reading the bottle right now.
-
Roaches are hard to ignore because they carry alot of bacteria. I have a cvc line which is prone to infections i dont do well with bugs so ignoring it is not an option
-
I agree. You deserve to not have roaches crawling around while hooked to a machine.

I called the front desk and she was like oh my goodness. I will tell them to do something about right away. She also mentioned how with it being raint season sometimes they pop up. And she also said she cant stand them either and its a war until she finds a kills them. So ill clean my chair once I go in. Wish me luck everyone.

Good luck Aaisha.Dar ... and ... it is not that unusual to clean the chair before using it. I do it as a "just-in-case" measurement and it surely gives me a more comfortable feeling, even though I know that the environment is kept quite clean anyway. But I also know that needing dialysis-treatments makes my body much more vulnerable ...
I send you my good-luck-wishes from Kristina. :grouphug;

One guy in my clinic brings his own cleaning supplies. Opens the char cleans it with Clorox wipes, opens the sides clean them, next the machine, then the tv. Finally he covers his chair with a clean sheet.
-
We have people who bring their own sheets to cover the chairs. Guess I am just too lazy for that though. If the roach came in on someone else's bag though, it will make no difference. Here, the techs are required to wupe down the chairs between patients.

My clinic as well!

Over at my clinic they wipe down the seats after patient use. But i am a bit crazy and worry about the spot that prob didnt get wipes all the way. Anyways, I went in today and complained to the nurse coordinator. I told him and he was like oh my are you serious and I said yeah Im not lying. Then he ADMITS and says yeah we have them in the back... The tech was also listening. Then he kinda jokingly said you probably brought it in...which just kinda made me angry. How did I bring it in if you have so much in the back??
Am I the only one who is freaking out about a roach? Because they have it in the back which is terrible!!! The tech who did my dialysis she is actually now a nurse was so sweet she said yeah I know i saw them crawl here on the floor. I asked her if she didn't m.k ind giving the chair and extra scrub just to be sure and she said no prob. She also said that she was here the night before and she cleaned the row of chairs a whole lot by opening the sides and stuff.
Side note: the nurse who put me on today made me extremely mad. She drops something on the floor picks it back up, touches the machine and my CVC line!!! I was shocked then when she went in the reverse the lines I asked her to change her gloves. I dont need to remind her this is somethinf that should be natural to you. Im so scared and dont want another infection Ill literally be so mad. She also told me not to hesitate to tell her anytinf and that sometimes she might forget...what a big thing to forget

The lady who dropped something and the nice lady are 2 different people in case any of you got confused...sorry long day
-
Do the techs not wipe down chairs between patients?
-
Yes they wipe it between patients

I hope they took care of the roach problem. I would definitely demand that they have the clinic treated for bugs. If they say they did, then maybe this roach was coming out to die. That's what bugs do when a place is treated. Anyways, there should not be roaches in a medical clinic. Hopefully this one just happened to get in thru the door or hitched a ride with a another patient and wasn't living in their walls at the clinic. I am so sorry that happened to you!
