Title: Easy way to keep track of your K & Phos
Post by: ezilu on August 27, 2018, 05:34:59 PM
I think I came up with an easy way to tally daily Potassium and Phosphorus intake. Check out my Facebook. Search for  Renalology on FB
My bad everyone! I was in a hurry, I had posted it on FB and it just occurred to me to post a link here in haste.
Here it is...
I came up with a simple way of tracking daily intake of #phosphorous and #potassium for #dialysis patients. It could work for most any diet I suppose but I couldn’t say for certain.
Phos is a little more difficult because it’s not labeled, WHY isn’t it labeled?! Anyways here’s how it goes. Say your daily intake of potassium is 2000 if you can count to 20 you can do it. Same with phosphorous say your daily limit is 1800.
1. Check your label or the FDA website or Google it. For now let’s just say you want to eat an avocado (oooh bad move and you’ll easily see why, which is also why this is a good method.)
1 avocado is 975 mg of potassium. Now move the decimal over two to the left you have 9.75, next round up its a 10! That’s half way to 20!!! Half of your daily allowance. This method helps you easily see why some foods are just too dangerous. But hey, side note: if you really love avocados like me, take a look at the potassium in those tiny avocados sold at Grocery Outlet and TraderJoes. One half of these trendy mini Avos is about 1/5 of a regular medium sized one which is what the FDA considers a serving. So now you have 140 mg. 1.5, round up to 2, 10% of your allowance. 🙂 Not bad, you can enjoy a half of a mini avo a day! Now you can get picky and say “hey that’s really just 1” but it’s better to round up to be safe and account for all those little unaccountable grams your missing. After all we are talking potassium here, this shit will stop your heart! Questions? Comment below, I’ll respond as soon as I’m able. #dialysisdiet #hemodialysis #makedialysiseasier

I stay as far away as possible from Facebook.  So I guess I'll skip your method.

Same here and it is a shame that we have no chance to learn your method of an easy way to deal with Potassium and Phosphorus intake only because we don't have the time or whatever to "do" facebook ... where do we go from here now? Any suggestions? Any chance you share your findings with us here on IHD?
Best wishes from Kristina. :grouphug;

kristina and Kickingandscreaming: Unless things have changed recently, you don't have to sign up with Facebook to read a page. You can simply treat it like a "normal" web page and read Ezilu's page in the same way you are reading this page.

Ezilu: Where is your Facebook page? There is no point in posting "Check out my Facebook page" if you do not post a link to it. I am interested in reading what you have to say, but have no way of finding it!

But FB can still track your data even if you just pop in to a page and aren't a member.  I care about invasions like this.

But FB can still track your data even if you just pop in to a page and aren't a member.  I care about invasions like this.

Most data they can only track if you give it to them or a Facebook App. The only other stuff they track is what you search for, or what Facebook pages you visit. However, if that worries you I take it then that this is the only website you ever visit? Nearly all websites do that. The worst are the search engines, particularly Google who also track via the ads they put on other sites, which includes over 50% of all English language websites. Visit Google, Yahoo, or Bing and you automatically get a cookie which tracks every website you ever visit and reports it back to the search engine.

But if you do not type data into the various forms (and I am suggesting you don't) and you are worried about what data they may collect, then stop searching for dubious things like #HardcorePorn #TeenagersNaked etc. and stop visiting questionable Facebook pages. If all you are asking about is #dialysis then what the hell are you worrying about?

(P.S. Both those questionable hashtags will show up in both my Facebook history and (without hashes) Google searches, along with a lot worse, because I enjoy searching for things I do not have any interest in just to screw up their metrics. Currently I am getting a lot of ads for a charity that is probably collecting to fund fundamentalist Muslim groups, and ads for Orlando Florida. Love to know what connects those two.)

Actually, I don't use Google and for that very reason.  I use something called StartPage (https://www.startpage.com/eng/?hbp=1#hmb) which does not retain any history of my searches. And I use lots of extensions that stop trackers and I often use an incognito page for browsing.   Short of using Tor or a VPN I manage to slough off most web parasites.  Certainly have more work to do.  And I think I'll continue to avoid Facebook.

You're right no FB profile needed, it's an open page
You can just search FB for Renalology and it comes up and here is the link!

kickingandscreaming: Yes but I still ask why you bother unless you have something to hide. Also, I'm told (but have seen no proof) that using a site like StartPage is taken by the police, feds etc. as evidence that you are searching for something illegal (how to make bombs, porn involving children, etc.).

This is getting off topic but I’m very happy there are people who care about privacy, practice it, and surve as canaries in the privacy swamp.

Yeah, you do know that the canaries in your allegory were there to die don't you? The canaries died and everyone else knew that there was poison gas about. Doubt if kickingandscreaming sees that as her rolé on the Internet!

As a copyright canary. But many others play their part in these things in supporting roles from furthering the cause by using software, fighting the legal fight etc.

I can not comment on kickingandscreaming’s role.
