Title: Allergies to Lactate?
Post by: Donn on July 06, 2018, 06:43:53 PM
Hello all.  I am the caregiver for my wife and we just started home hemo-dialysis 4 weeks ago.  The treatments and training have been going very well and I am becoming more comfortable with it.  My wife has a number of health issues beside renal failure however different issues seem to be popping up recently,  We have changed the lactated % and amount of dialysate but it is persisting.  Has anyone ever heard of a Lactate allergy?  I appreciate your help.  Thank you.

No but people can be allergic to anything.  I am allergic to Vaseline and if I use any meds in ointment I break out in the worst case of contact dermatitis you have ever scene.

Lactate?

I'm gonna have to Google this as the word is far to similar to Lactose and latex for me to know anything yet.

OK, now I'm REALLY confused.

Need much more information how this is affecting her before I  understand much better.

Thank you all so far for your comments.  I have googled Lactate Ringers and have found there are allergies but I don't know the if the Dialysate with a Lactate %.  I have seen where at least one individual using NxStage Home Dialysis was not doing well for months, and was feeling worse that he had been with other systems.  He went back to In-Center and Bicarb treatment and felt better in a few weeks.  But his symptoms were much different than Elaine's.  I will be contacting NxStage directly or indirectly Monday to at least see if there could be an issue.  Anyway, a lot of you people have experience in these matters and are in the know, so I thought I would through it out there.  Thank you again.
