Title: Chelation Therapy to clean arteries
Post by: Whamo on May 05, 2018, 11:38:07 AM
Is chelation therapy safe for dialysis patients?  I read where it cleans the arteries and expells the gunk out through your kidneys.  So if the kidneys have failed it makes me wonder if it would be safe.

I just asked my Neph about this. He said that it was not a real thing.  I know of people that have had it done and said it worked and others that said it did nothing for them.  The ones that said it worked had the procedure done in Mexico.  Maybe they are able to do a different treatment that the FDA does not let us do in this country. Please post if find anything out about this.

Apparently works for heavy metal poisoning (the elements, not the music :) ) but no proof it works at cleaning the arteries.

My favourite line about it was "Chelation therapy must be administered with care as it has a number of possible side effects, including death." That put me off it. (Although to be fair, you could say the same thing about dialysis.)

P.S. The best proven methods of cleaning the arteries are unflavoured, unsweetened porridge (oatmeal) made with water, not milk; and eating loads of fresh (not dried, powdered, pickled, etc.) garlic.

P.P.S If you are a man, it has also been proven (genuine medical research) that eating at least four cloves of garlic every day will give you a bigger penis.

Paul, you make me laugh.

I eat garlic regularly as a substitute for salt.  If those Wive's Tales were true I wouldn't be able to walk, or get my jeans on very easily.

Any treatment that rely's on our kidneys to remove anything will NOT work for those of us on dialysis, UNLESS, that element is removed by the dializer.  I would be VERY hesitant to try any such treatment on my own.  You very well could poison yourself.

Those on PD may or may not fair so well either.

Thank you for your answers.  I'll be eating garlic because I've heard it kills cancer.  I have skin cancer and I think it might kill me.

I saw the Derm Lady Dr at the VA this week.  This is the first time she hasn't cut parts off me in quite a while.  SOO many skin cancers on my fore arms, face and shoulders.  Even had a surprise one on my right shin.

ALWAYS have at least a dozen of those dry scaly pre-cancerous lesions that she freezes with that nitrogen squirt gun.  By the time I get back home I am covered in those water blisters.

They tell me this is mostly caused by all the sunburns I had as a kid palying outside in the sun growing up in the desert.

That combined with my Nordic fair skin and red beard.    I could also burn in the winter, sun plus the reflection off the snow.  And off the water out in the boat fishing.    I just can't stay inside when the weather is decent.
