I do too and I'm not low in iron nor on prednisone. But I really don't like this bruising business. And there ugly-- the kind of purple bruises that old people get (I'm a old people.)

Dr had me one ???? Niacin, yah, that's it, niacin. I'd flush so badly turning all red and looking like I had a sunburn. So I learned to take a regular aspirin with my niacin, twice a day. It never made much improvement in my cholesterol, but I did bruise terribly, and God help me if I got scratched, or cut. I was taking this stuff for years.
One day mowing the yard I must have jambed a tree a bit too hard, poked my leg, didn't notice it. Until I stopped for gas. Found the floorboard around my shoe had about an inch thick pool of blood. My shoe was filled.
Drove arouond to the water faucet and started hosing everything off. Found about a one inch gash in my shin that was still leaking a very steady stream.
Qwap!
Called the Wife as I didn't want to leave a bloody trail. 4 paper towels folded up to a 2 X 2, direct pressure for longer than I can think, gave up and taped it securely. An hour drive to the VA hospital thinking it was gonnna take at least 4 stitches. By the time I got there it had stopped bleeding. Dr slapped on a whimp sticker (band aid) and sent me home.
I called my Primary Dr and told her I was going to quit the niacin and aspirin. Afraid if I were in a major accident I would bleed out internally before anyone could even get there.

Lordy, Charlie, so glad you didn't fall over in a faint out there in the yard.
uttanutta - my hubby bruises easily, too, ever since they put him on low-dose aspirin for cholesterol, gosh, 20+ years ago. It doesn't seem to have anything to do with the kidney jazz, just the thin blood.

Prednisone can stay in your system a very long time. It can cause all sorts of weird bruises. But so can anemia. Definitely bring this up with your neph.

Charley I am on aspirin, plavix, and warfarin. Last October I had 2 teeth pulled, the oral surgeon insisted I take amoxicillin before and after the surgery. The amoxicillin increased the effectiveness of the warfarin and it did not stop bleeding. Saturday called the oral surgeon and went in he put a couple of more stitches in and told me to bite on teabags. Bleeding continued all weekend. Monday after dialysis went to Urgent Care at the medical group I belong to and the found my inr was over 4 (not good) and my hemoglobin which was 11.5 before this crap had dropped to 7.5. I was sent to the Hospital admitted given 5 grams of Vitamin K, my mouth stuffed with absorbent foam and was given a packed cell transfusion and I had to stay for several days. Now before any procedure I have my inr checked.

I know just what you mean about the bruising. The slightest grazing by anything leaves those dark, ugly, purple bruises. Every time, our techs want to know what I did. I tell them nothing really, and they tell me I need to stop doing nothing then.

I am down from 20 mg prednisone to 5mg, however I still bruise so easily. All I have to do is bump my hand on something and I have an ugly purple bruise.
