Today is laundry day. :thumbdown; While the appliances do their thing there is some time for research. :thumbup; I have cruised this forum for all opinions both for and against concerning wine consumption. Some are for; some against and some are of the opinion that any alcohol is to be avoided at all costs.
I am "for". When I was in college I learned how to party. When I started working for a living I received my Masters in "partying". Then Real Life stepped in and I stopped partying. Don't know why......just did. Then I retired........still no partying. In the last 2 years I have had 6 failed fistula attempts, 1 failed graft attempt, a bucket full or hallucinations, some panic attacks here and there and am on my second catheter. 2 strokes, 1 total destruction of my van with the scooter lift in it, 8 weeks in "in residence" physical rehab and 2 years on in-center dialysis. I just had my 79th birthday and I miss partying. :shy;
In this twilight of my life I decided I would love to have a glass of wine sometime. So I checked with my neph who said no problem. Checked with my regular MD (also a Nephrology Fellow) who said no problem. Checked with my Respiratory specialist who said no problem. I have read that a female person can have 1.5 oz of wine per day with no problems. So I make a spritzer in the evening after dinner and it is sooooooo good!

No one on my medical team(s) have ever told me to avoid wine at all costs. I've never been a "party" girl (if by "party" you mean getting stonking drunk), but I do like the occasional glass of wine with dinner. Enjoy!

My labs are well enough that the clinic Dietician tells me that I am allowed to 'splurge' once in a while, so the potassium in a glass of red wine can be allowed.
That old thing about "All things in moderation", applies.
My problem with wines is as a kid our neighbors had grape vines that grew very well. So naturally I picked a whole bunch, mashed them up, added a litle more sugar then mixed in a bit of yeast. After about a week or two of fermenting I filtered it off and proceeded to get falling down drunk. Puking so much that I haven't had but a very rare taste for nearing 50 years.
I still can't eat a purple grape.

White wine will always be my choice not necessarily because of the potassium but rather because of a Life experience a looooong time ago. At that time I drank about 4 ounces of red and had a headache so bad that even after all these years, I still remember it. The feeling was the same as putting Digitalis under my tongue. I think every square inch of my blood transport system dilated big time.
