Title: 19 years and Counting
Post by: kitkatz on November 02, 2017, 04:02:42 PM
Celebrate with me!!!
:flower; :bandance; :bandance; :flower;

As of today it is 19 years on hemodialysis.
That is 19 years straight, no breaks from it.
Dialysis three days a week for 19 years.
That is three treatments, 52 weeks a year.
156 treatments a year.
19 years times 156= 2964 dialysis treatments.
2  16 gauge needles every treatment =5928 needles

Several hospital stays.
Several surgeries and redos for graft and fistula
Major abdominal surgery for an intestinal perforation

Had two near death experiences.

It has not been easy.
I am astounded I am still here.

Happy B-Day, Miss kitkatz! As in "BIG DAY" for U! Here's a little poem for you..

I made it this far
but where am I going?
What is my life to be?

I went so far
but when I look back
my life is just where it should be.

:bestwishes; Live life, have no regrets, make no excuses and definitely no apologies!

I know how tough 5 years is, I can’t imagine the perseverance required to deal with this for 17 years. I am in awe of you and how well you have dealt with this .

19 years of poking and drudgery.  That takes a strong will to live.  Just the thought of 19 years makes me want to lie down.  Congratulations Kitkatz.  Here's to another 19 years.

I’m on my 17th year, 18th by April next year. And so ii thought I’ve been doing this forever. It’s truly aspiring, making me want to live longer. Because to ne honest there are days when I feel like just sleeping it off and not go to treattment anymore.

Thanks for sharing your amazing experiences.

Yeah, I agree with you. We have kidney disease. However we are tough and strong mentally.

Wish you the best.

4 1/2 years here with only the last year on Hemo.  Recently went to services for an older Lady we lost from my clinic.  Her Husband tells me that her Dr had recently commended her for being her for being his first patient out of thousands to live over 10 years on hemo.  She ws just over 11 when she passed on.

Made me wonder about my mortality.  Then to learn there are a number of you that are still surviving after many many more years.  You give us new guys Hope.  As long as we stay vigilant, keep tight control over our diet and fluids, we have a reasonable chance of hanging on for quite a while yet.

Thank Kit Katz!

Keep taking good Care,

Charlie B53
