Hi girls,
Im 22 which means I still get my period...occasionally. i noticed my period is different this time extra heavy. I am on heparin because I clot easily. Is heparin safe to be on while on your period?

You should talk to your hematologist- many women do fine on heparin with menses but if bleeding is excessive that will confound your anemia from renal failure. Have you considered deposit shots? Usually stop all periods.

Are you going through a tampon or pad in an hour? If it is that heavy, you definitely need to talk to your nephrologist and see a gynecologist. In any case, I would definitely tell your nephrologist. Any changes like that could make you more anemic. I was having heavy bleeding about your age and found out I had uterine polyps. It is important to get those things checked out. Your gynecologist might be able to put you on a birth control like the depo shots, pills or an IUD to help regulate hormones and keep your period from being so heavy. Girl, you have been through it! I hope you get relief soon!

Yeah.. I'd see your gynecologist for sure.. a few years ago, I had what I call "marathon periods." One lasted 46 days, and the other lasted 48 days, and they were quite heavy.. my hemoglobin dropped big time, and it caused a whole mess of other problems that took over a year to fix.. my gynecologist still doesn't know what caused them.

The menstrual cycle is actually very complicated. I'll try and get it checked out. Thanks everyone:)
