Title: Little breakouts and dry skin on face
Post by: AaishaDar on August 24, 2017, 11:22:39 AM
So Ive noticed ever since I started hemodialysis my face has been extra dry and I notice small bumps here and there. Ive always had dry skin but when I was on peritoneal dialysis my skin was fairly smooth and really not that dry. Im not sure but do you think because now Im on such a strict fluid restriction that is what has caused my face to become like that? And another note, Ill go to dialysis with a very dry face but after my treatment my face becomes very oily... werid huh?

Hello AaishaDar,
I suffer from Lupus SLE, MCTD and Sjoegren's Syndrome plus Sicca Syndrome, which are the causes for my dry skin and I have noticed, that air-conditioning in "my" dialysis-center adds very much to my skin dryness.
It helps me a bit to rub after my morning shower some E45 Intense Recovery Body Lotion all over my body and for my face I use some E45 face cream, sometimes I use E45 itch relief cream instead (because this helps more intensively) and/or original Vaseline cream. At first this compilation sounds like a lot of "work", but in reality it only takes a few minutes of my time and it certainly helps a bit. I also make sure that I put on some Vaseline cream in my face before entering the center and that also helps. Why? Because it protects me as much as it possibly can protect from the ultraviolet light and air-conditioning in the center.
Good luck from Kristina and please let us know how you are getting on. :grouphug;

Skin can be very tricky to deal with, sometimes.  I think you are right, you are dry from the fluid restriction.  After treatment, you are probably extra dry since fluid was just taken off.  Your skin may be trying to compensate by producing more oils at that time.  I would try some intense hydration stuff like aloe vera creams to help.  I know Clinique carries a moisture surge gel that is great for the skin, but is a little pricey.  Exfoliators help with the dry skin, too.  For $7, I picked up a trial size Mario Badescu hydrating spray.  You can put it in your purse and spritz when your face feels dry.  http://www.ulta.com/facial-spray-with-aloe-cucumber-green-tea?productId=xlsImpprod15471023&sku=2507284  On some reviews, people would put it in the fridge first for a cooling effect.

I find relief with Aveeno Baby Eczema Therapy Nighttime Balm. Sort of feels like soft chapstick going on but not as greasy as vasoline. Very soothing. You can find it in the baby section. Works wonders.
