Is there a connection between CKD...Dialysis ...and bone pain ,stiffness I've found my thighs the worst plus shoulders since starting Dialysis

Hi beep, it could be so many things though. But if I were to connect it to HD I would think maybe the positioning in your D chair? Is it worse the day after D?

I have DJD, Degenerative Joint Disease of those joints that I have damaged throughout my life by injuries. I also have calcium problems, losing calcium from my bones, making them porous. I suspect that between the two conditions that the cartilage covering the ends of the bones within the joints my be becoming less resilient, unable to soften the normal little 'shocks' incurred in simple movement causing increasing stiffness and pain.
I've had repeated steroid injections in some joints with varying degrees of success in relieving some of my symptoms for a period of time, up to months. Sometimes only hours.
This began long ago from injury, Dialysis may have accelerated the degeneration. It is difficult to tell, only that I have chronic pain requiring medication and physical therapy. Neither modality makes enough improvement alone.
I have noticed a definite increase in symptoms when my 'dry weight' is too low.

What's your PTH reading? A PTH of over 600 could indicate bone degeneration, although it's typically much higher than than before you start hurting.
I have the worst pain in deep in my left hip sometimes after dialysis, although I'm not sure if it's muscle pain or bone pain. I have to put a hot pad on it for an hour or so before sleeping so I can feel comfortable, and sometimes I take a Tylenol, too.

Also, check your phosphorus and calcium levels. If the phosphorus is too high, it can leach calcium from your bones, making them weak and brittle. Bone pain can be a symptom of this.

Hello,
I struggled with similar problems and nothing in my bloodresults gave any indication as to the cause of this pain.
I then saw a physiotherapist, who told me that these pains are possibly due to my dialysis-treatments which are still pretty harsh on the body.
She then gave me some advise as how to do my own physiotherapy to "make things easier" for myself.
One of these exercises is to lie in bed and move my legs as if I am cycling a bike (count at first to 25, then after a week try 50, then ...etc.),
move my shoulders in circles (25 times) and my arms, then move my ellbows in circles very gently and carefully and continue to go for little walks.
It all helps and the pain has pretty much gone now and it hopefully stays away ...
... Mind you, the start of these exercises was pretty hard and painful and I made sure not to force myself, but just do very little at a time to start off with...
Best wishes and good luck from Kristina. :grouphug;

Dear Lorinn, please make sure not to become too ambitious at the start of it all ....
... and please start very slowly and take great care...
... and please don't forget: your body surely tells you when enough is enough
and don't forget to listen to your body at all times ...
Best wishes and good luck from Kristina. :grouphug;

Hugs to you, kristina, and many thanks!

Many thanks Lorinn and please take care ...
and please make sure to take those exercises very slowly in your own time ...
I have noticed that the sheer regularity of those exercises seems to be the ticket...
Best wishes from Kristina. :grouphug;
