I have reactions to artificial sweeteners. Does any one use a protein power with no sweeteners or just plain unflavored, protein powder? I tried the ones in body building section like at Walmart and had reactions to them. I need my protein up, but just don't like eating so much, and really tired of eggs. Any suggestions on keeping protein up and phosphorous down.

I am not sure about sweeteners in protein powder, but be careful of phosphorus and potassium in protein powders. I know some are better than others about that. Have you asked your clinic about a supplement like Nepro? I know that is a good one to help with albumin. We also give Liquicell to patients. It tastes nasty, but does a good job.

Try pure protein bars. Low in Phosphorous and lots of protein...

I've been using Liquacel. A full 16 grams of protein. But it does contain artificial sweeteners and in general I try to avoid them. The orange flavor isn't bad tasting when mixed with a lot of sparkling water to make a soda. But that doesn't work if you're fluid restricted.

sucralose is Splenda. Artificial as all get out.

Wife stomachs the peach mango liquicel the best and the zone bars as recommended by dietician.

Thank you to everyone. I have liquacel but so sick of it. I have a nice protein bar but again tired of them, by the time I get to the end I want to barf so take bites during the day... guess my taste buds are just tired out. I thought if I looked for an unflavored protein I could add it to my meals. I was reading about nutritional yeast and its protein but just beginning to learn about it. Something I could add to meals if renal friendly. Also chia seed for protein.. haven't got an Ok on that yet. I do PD so protein is something I must keep up. May just be Feb. and waiting for a spring change. Again, thanks for your kind response.

I will have to get my glasses on and read the ingredients of the vanilla flavored powder I got from Wal Mart. I don't remember seeing arficial sweetner but that doesn't mean I didn't miss it. I chose the Vanilla as it had the least phosphorus and potassium than all the other flavors and brands that listed. Many brands did not list minerals so I skipped them.

OK, got my morning coffee and put my glasses on. Have that big jug of protein powder from Wal Mart.
I bought this off the shelf at Wal Mart
Body Fortress
Super Advanced WHEY Protein Vanilla
Ingredients are:
Super Whey Protein Powder (Whey Protein Concentrate, Whey Protein Isolate)
Maltodextrin
Natural and Artificial Flavors
Soy Lecitin
Cellulose Gum
Acesulfame Potassium
Sucralose
So there Is an artificial sweetener in this after all, I didn't notice that before. I will have to take my glasses with me next time as this jug is almost done and I will be looking closer before buying another. I may still end up with this same product.
IIRC FDA labeling requires ingredients to be listed in order of amounts with the most listed first, etc., until the least amount contained in the final total mixture. In this blend it would appear that the artificial sweetener Sucralose is the least of all the ingredients used, however there is no way short of lab testing to determine how much that is in a measured dosage.

There are 2 artificial sweeteners in your protein powder: sucralose and Acesulfame Potassium (which doesn't have a very good reputation). Maltodextrin isn't artificial, but has diabetic consequences.

You know a lot more about sweeteners than I do.
When I see the name 'Acesulfame Potassium' I am thinking this is another form of salt, which I should avoid.
Fortunately this also is one of the least used elements of their recipe. But here again, they never tell us just how much of any one thing is in that recipe. So fr I have only used two heaping teaspoons daily in my big cup of coffee. My cup is more like two of any half way normal cups. I used to drink the whole 12 cup pot. I've seriously limited my fluid intake. Hemo sucks.

My clinic does liquicell as well, but they just got a new flavor in, watermelon. Have you tried that one yet? I didn't like liquicell's regular flavors and resorted to buying Nepro off of amazon for myself, but 2 days ago the clinic got this new watermelon flavor in, and it is actually drinkable. It doesn't taste good by any means, but it is much more tolerable then the regular liquicell, that strange aftertaste is less prevalent in this flavor, in my opinion. May be worth a shot if you haven't tried it yet!

Isn't Jello protein? With a crapload of sugar. But something like the plain Knox gelatin may be a thought. You could make up a batch and toss in something like berries for flavoring. You would still need to count the total volume against your daily fluid intake.
As a kid my Brothers and I tried to make our own 'Jello' this way. It wouldn't set so we kept adding packages of that Knox Gelatin. Still didn't work. Til Mom came home and heated it. Then it set up like a rock.
So I learned at an early age;
When all else fails, read the Directions.
