I spoke with our friend Zach. He is very ill, in New York Presbyterian Hospital - Cornell Weill.
He asked that I post a message to let our members know.
His prognosis is not good and I am heartbroken to share this news.
He sends his love to you all.
Zach has been a member here since Jan. 2007.
He has been on in-center (self-care) hemodialysis since 1982 -- 34 YEARS on March 3, 2016

Sad news indeed Karol. Zach has been such an inspiration to so many of us on IHD and for so long too. I am heart broken.
-
Oh, this is terrible news. I don't know how much information Zach wishes to share, but is there anything more you can tell us?
Please tell him that all of us at IHD are thinking of him and are hoping for some better news soon.
-
Sad news indeed Karol. Did Zach want to mention what happened? He has been well for years. Thank you so much for letting us know. Should you talk to him again will you please tell him I am praying for him.?
Thanks, Love, Jean
-

Thank you for the message, Karol. This is horrible news. It's been so long since I've been on. I miss everyone!
Does he have a virus or has he had heart issues?
-
I am sorry to hear that. He's been a great source of knowledge on this board for sure, I've learned a lot from the research articles he finds and posts.
-
Dear Zach, I am very sorry to read that you are not well
and I keep my fingers crossed that you pull through this hurdle and please get better soon.
I send you my best wishes and please take great care of yourself,
Kristina. :grouphug;

have been a role model to many patients here.
-
I've read so many of Zach's posts over the years, and he provides in them such good and practical information and advice. My prayers and strongest thoughts for you to pull through this, Zach!

I will keep Zach and is family in my prayers, and hope he recovers and keeps on.
-
Zach, I'm thinking of, and praying for you!....
Many of your Renal Friendly cookery ideas were put into action during my late mum's 'journey' through kidney failure... You are a leading light...
May you have peace, and until we meet again, may the Lord hold you in the palm of his hand...
Love....

It may be his heart. We spoke briefly as they were taking him to dialysis.

Terrible news. I haven't been a member long enough to know Zach well but I have great respect for the postings I have read. Many informative posts filled with information I would not have found on my own.
Zach your knowledge and experience have been a guiding force for many of us.
I am sure, we all are Praying for your health issue to be improved, that you may still be a long standing asset to these boards.
I am hoping to be able to hear from you soon.
Take Care,

Hubby and I will be praying for you, Zach. Hope you haven't gone and overworked yourself on any of your film projects. You are one of the few that inspire my husband to continue working. Darn, maybe you need a bowl of that chili you had perfected. We all could use a bowl of "Zach's Chili"! Here's wishing you a speedy recovery and Happy New Year! Do keep us posted! We're right here for you. :cuddle;
-
What terrible news. My inspiration for so long, sending positive thoughts his way.
:cuddle;
Lots of love and strength, Cas
-
Sorry to hear of your challenges Zach. I hope you are able to recover and read everyone's well wishes for years to come.
-
Oh no! I have passed on a lot of Zach's tips and tricks to patients. Praying for him and his family! :pray;
-
Terrible news. I'm so sorry to hear this.

I wish Zach well. 34 years is most impressive.
Perhaps we should set up a buddy system on IHD where each person knows their buddy's contact info, next of kin, etc. - so someone can find out the story if a regular drops off the radar screen. I don't think there is anyone here who would have any idea what happened if I suddenly went TU and disappeared from the forum.

We have an Emergency Contact list. You need to send Kitkatz a PM and she will add you.

Well Zach, it is a painful journey however way you cut it, healthy or sickness. Reality is we all have to reach the end of the line- the train stops. It is always the ones remain behind that suffer the most.
My friend, I hope you'll make it through, otherwise, May God bless you.

Okarol, any new news about our friend Zach?
:grouphug;

I spoke with him yesterday but it was very hard to hear as I was in a place with limited cell reception. He is sleeping a lot and he is on oxygen.
I think he said he is more stable, but not sure what that means.
He said he love you all and thanks you for thinking of him.
:-*
-
Grateful for the update...
Sending best wishes.
-
Zach, hang in there buddy. Big time thoughts and prayers headed your way!

Maintaining Prayers for ya Zack!

During my recent cardiac episode as I was being released my ejection fraction( amount of blood that leaves the heart during a contraction, normal is 50% to 55% .). Mine was 20 % down from 48% prior to my heart attack. Why I feel that Zach has a good chance is today I learned in 3 weeks my ejection fraction is now up to 38%. Cardiac issues that killed in the past are treated successfully today. So while I will continue to pray that Zach recovers and continues as a inspiration for me I have reason to be hopeful of a reasonable recovery for Zach.
-
I pray that he gets well soon and gets the strength to pull himself through this rough patch. Wish him well for the future!
-
Best wishes, Zach....
