So I'm marking the first anniversary of starting D. Whoopee! Last year on this day (which was also Thanksgiving and my birthday) I "celebrated" by spending 3 days in the hospital. First of all for pneumonia and then for the farewell to viable kidney function. I sure do know how to have a good time. :sarcasm; Today, I am 75 and it's my birthday again. But this time I'm home where I belong.

This doesn't sound like a very fun birthday. Can Cassandra at least send you some pea soup? :P

:birthday;
Hope this one is much better than the last one!
Are you going to splurge on the diet with cake and ice cream?
If you were near by I'd bring you a cupcake. Grandson had cupcakes last night in a late celebration of his 10th B'Day on the 20th. I haven't ate mine yet. Maybe later tonight.

I wish you and the wonderful dog of yours a happy birthday.

Thank you, SimonDog.

Hope you were able to celebrate both your birthday and Dialysis anniversary with some treats! Certainly better than the way you celebrated last year, I'm sure.

I also would like to wish you a happy birthday K&S! I'm so glad you're at home, safe & well, to celebrate & enjoy it properly this time.
(If you don't mind me asking, but what was your kidney functioning when pneumonia struck?)

Thank you Fabkiwi and Athena.
what was your kidney functioning when pneumonia struck?
It was a whopping 6-8%, but I was still feeling fine. Until I developed a cough. Then after 2 weeks of thinking it was just a mild upper resp. cold, I started not being able to breathe.. And swelling up. It was then that I happened to have my monthly nephro appt. and I could barely even walk as I bumped into my nephro on the way to her office. She immediately took action and had me Xrayed and put on antiobics and told me i was being admitted for pneumonia. Having never had pneumonia before, I didn't recognize it (thought maybe it was mild asthma or a not so bad cold). Clearly, i was wrong. So there began my journey into D. It is not usual--so I'm told-- for dialysis to start with this kind bang. My legs were like tree trunks-- so swollen and hard. Took me about a week (which I hear is a short time) to recover my breathing. Not a great way to spend Thanksgiving or a birthday. But it could have been worse.

I second that, though it's a belated happy birthday from me!
