'I can't imagine living in that situation. It is hard enough watching all the food commercials, but at least I can't get to it unless I get in my car and drive to it and pay.' Someone said this in an old thread.
For my situation, it gets so much better in a way. I have to book a bus for the next day to even get started on these food commercials, never mind paying for them. So, that fact alone cools me right down. ONCE IN A WHILE, a treat or two in SINGLE serving size, and not
a huge bag of things like chips or that only rarely. That is all I allow. Once that bag runs out, I say wait for another while before trying again. All I need now is a taste or so of a snack like potato chips, once the single serving "baggie" runs out, no more.

Problem is many small containers are not really 'single serving'. Careful reading of the labeling lists serving sizes to be far less than the container. The problem is many of us eat or drink, the whole thing and consume far more than what we are led to believe by the labels.
FDA is looking into changing labeling to be clearer. I doubt if it will make much difference in our eating habits. We are too far gone already. Old habits die hard.
It takes serious willpower to limit yourself how much we eat and drink of those things we know are not the best for us.
I admit, I am guilty of such poor judgement, far more than I should be.
I normally won't eat chips, fries, or drink soda's. So those very rare occasions when I do eat chips or fries I figure I am still within reasonable boundaries.

Yup, and a single muffin is often 3 "servings" if you read the fine print.

Those 20oz bottles of soda are 2.5 servings.
I do like that many labels now have both the "serving size" and "package size" stats. Let's be real here, I'm not measuring out my Sprite in to 2.5 servings when I grab a bottle at the gas station...

And I am eating that WHOLE muffin. chocolate chocolate chip, lemon cranberry, or lemon poppy seed, but those make a UA look dirty for opiates. Don't ask me how I know.

Don't feel horrible for looking Dirty for Opiates in USA, Canada has the same bad luck. Here in Canada, I can get a single serving baggie of potato crisps and that is it. Our sodas are likely much like yours, so
I haven't attempted to challenge a Coca-Cola or those dark drinks whatsoever. God, I stuck tight as a drum on that so far.

It's a very good thing that I LIKE water.
Commercials for water crack me up. I don't remember when but I still think people are nuts for BUYING water. But my Wife does. And that drives me NUTS. We got LOTS of water. Our well is very close to 1000, yes, three zeros, 1000 feet deep. So deep, and flows so well, no pun intended, that the St Charles Water District has been BEGGING us to sell them our well. Ain't gonna happen. There are 6 or 7 of us in this private division sharing this well, no one wants to sell. The water Co promises we will have FREE water for our life time. So? What they aren't telling is how much CHEMICALS they will be adding to our water. Don't need it. Don't want it. They can't make me have it. But the WIFE still buys water to cook with. D'Oh! She will not admit that the store bought water is meerly some city water bottled and put on the shelf.
You can always tell a woman. You just can't tell her much.
Now that you got me on the subject of women. I met a very old farmer. He told me a few things. One that really stuck with me was his thoughts on marriage. How marriage can be a lot like a hot bath. When you first get in it is REALLY hot! But after enough time in.........
it's not so hot.

Fritos Corn Chips are my favorite chips - I don't eat that type of snack food often, but recently had a craving for something salty on my drive home from work. I've been cracking down on my sodium intake, so I counted out a serving size (27 chips!). It made for a nice (little) snack without being too crazy with sodium. Felt kinda crazy counting chips though!

I too suffer from "we have to buy water".
I tried labeling bottles in the fridge A and B, and my wife was upset I was treating her like a lab rat. But, that is no where near as bad as the day I put a small bag in the fridge with our dog's name on it the night before his stool sample was due (the bag was empty).

I have been looking at package sizing and they will get you, 100 calorie packages can contain high levels of carbs and sugars and are not good snacks. It takes a careful watch on snacks all of the time. I am down to apples, carrots, popcorn, grapes, dark chocolate, rye crackers, string cheese, fruit juice canned fruits, soup and veggies. I also have gluten free tortillas and cheese and egg whites.
