Title: HIGH INTACT PTH LEVELS
Post by: grayfox on July 25, 2016, 12:25:06 PM
Hi everyone,

My IPTH levels were high for several years before I started dialysis in January of this year, and they continue to be high with every monthly blood test.  My current reading is 898 pg/mL , down from 1018 last month.  The range is 7.5 - 53.5.  Has anyone had problems with this hormone?  My doctor thinks I should take a medication that can lower the reading, but I took this same drug prior to dialysis and it caused me strong palpitations and light headedness.  Not sure what to do.  I have been told that this reading is dangerous, and I will start to have serious problems such as extensive bone loss and possible cardiovascular problems.  Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Was it Cinacalcet/ Mimpara that you had such side-effects from?
Such high iPTH will cause problems in the longterm, bones, vascular etc.

Love, luck and strength, Cas

Yes, it was Cinacalcet that caused the side effects.  I'll keep you informed if I start the medication.  Maybe this time it won't cause me side effects.  I seem to be able to tolerate some medications that bothered me previous to dialysis.

Thanks for responding.  It is so wonderful to be able to ask questions and have responses from other dialysis patients.

Take care, Grayfox
