Title: In Hospital Hemo or CCPD

I am a Polycystic Kidney Disease patient whose function is 20% and falling.  I am sure some of my questions have been addressed but here goes,   I am trying to decide between In hospital Hemo and CCPD.  I am almost 69 and have a supporting spouse.   I am concerned about how much pain is involved in the needle sticks with Hemo and when ever I have blood work (often) it is always a problem although the needle stick pain is not.  Thin, shallow rolling veins, so concerned about fistula success.  I am concerned about storage space for CCPD and the whole process but leaning that way because of better overall results and less dietary restrictions.
I know I am quiet a ways from dialysis but I am a person who believes knowledge is power.  Any opinions, ideas, etc would be appreciated.
Should I ask about getting on a transplant list?

Ask about the list - you always have the right to decline an offered organ.   Familiarize yourself with the KDPI and KDRI scoring so you can better understand what you are being offered if you get the call.

If needle pain is a concern, ask for Emla cream.  It really helps.

Ask you MD if starting PD now would preserve residual function for a period of time.  The general rule is PD can be better early on when it preserves residual but, once that is gone, HD can be better.

Don't rule out home hemo.
