Greetings!
I just turned 41 this weekend and for my birthday I'm getting dialysis! :birthday; I'm not sure if it's the best present I've ever receive or not, but I am grateful to have the option vs death.
4 years ago I was diagnosed with stage 4 CKD at 18% after an eventful trip to the hospital. My first attempt to get on the transplant list was met with a no and a suggestion to lose 100 lbs. I went back a year later and 140 lbs smaller only to be told no again because I don't have enough insurance. So I went to a different hospital, got listed, and here we are 5 months later.
I've chosen PD because I'm a pretty busy lady. I'm a wife, mom, a full time student in the healthcare field, Girl Scout leader, and a future grandma. I love my life.
I'm a little nervous about getting started, so I'm happy this forum exists.
Thanks for having me!

Welcome to IHD!
My husband also does PD and it works well for him. There are lots of great PD threads in the home dialysis section.

140 pounds in a year!?
I need your secret! I need to lose about 8-9 kilos to meet their weight requirement (still in the process of getting on the transplant list), and while hemo takes off a fair bit per session, I tend to gain most of that back before the next session. >.<

Thank you all for your warm welcome!
While some may call it cheating, I chose to have gastric bypass surgery to lose the weight. I honestly didn't have time to do it on my own since my goal was to stay off of dialysis as long as possible.
