Hello Everyone,
I discovered the forum a few months back and have been spending some time on it reading through a variety of topics. I've been employed in the dialysis industry for some time as a technician and have a couple of family members who suffer from chronic kidney disease and who have been struggling to accept their condition and the challenges that come with long-term treatment. Although a career in the specialty can be difficult at times, I feel incredibly fortunate to be able to have a positive influence on others and offer support to the people I work with. In addition, my knowledge of the treatment process has been extremely helpful for my family.

Welcome to IHD, CHutchinson!
What kind of support/advice do you give your family members who have CKD? Are any of them on dialysis yet? I couldn't tell if they have CKD or ESRD.
Which are the biggest challenges that you face in your career as a dialysis tech? For how long have you been a tech? Was there anything in particular that helped you make this particular career choice?
Glad you found us and hope you stay around. We've had many new members who are techs/nurses/nephrologists or are otherwise connected with the industry, but to be honest, they don't stick around for very long. I suspect that when they see dialysis "from the other side of the needles", they just want to escape!!! Can't say that I blame them one bit.
