My blood tests have come back extremely low in Vitamin D this month (yet not done anything different) and my cholesterol has spiked too (Understand there maybe a link?)
Have been a bit tired of late too...
Anyone else have this problem and have any info on why and curing it ???

Vit D requires the kidneys to make it active . It is a whole metabolic process that requires the liver then kidneys. So with kidney disease it is always a potential problem. The liver is involved in cholesterol synthesis. So that may be a common path with vit d as the liver is very involved with vit d also. I would simply recheck before doing anything. Then if it is still an issue talk to you nephrologist . My wife takes Lipitor for her cholesterol and it works well.

I'd have to go get the bottles for the names, but the Dr's have tried three different Vit D's as my labs at one point listed it so low the Dr said it was virtually undetectable. The first two didn't do much at all other than my calcium kept climbing. Calcium was over 10.4 to begin with so they soon stopped those calcium supplements and ordered the this one, which was supposed to be the correct one for kidney patients. Calcium still rose to 11.7, so they stopped that one also. Calcium has finally dropped back as low as 10.4
I was told by my Pain Dr that Vit D is essential for pain management. I didn't feel any difference in pain levels at any time taking any of the Vit D's.
My concern is bone density, if there has been, or is a loss occurring. Dr's are not yet willing to have a density scan done.
I have been asking about the advisability of taking renal vitamens. Waiting for a response from my Neph.

Interesting point about pain because my joints in particular knees and wrists have been really painful since
I'd stand outside but apparently my bp tablet reacts badly to sunlight and turns you grey ( not a good look)

Hello Sugar,
please tell me what sort of BP-medication are you taking that it reacts badly to sunlight?
I am wondering because I have been reading that about 15 minutes in the sun every day
prevents us from any Vitamin deficiency, but if you take a medication which makes you to avoid the sun,
it would defeat the purpose of getting your Vitamin D "naturally"...
Best wishes from Kristina.

Ramipril commonly used bp med that reacts to sunlight. I haven't gone grey yet in normal life but wouldn't recommend sunbathing on beach or sunbed. 8)

Thank you for the helpful information Sugar,
I am very interested in this, because I have to make a careful balance
about my daily exposure to bright sunlight and bright ultraviolet artificial light
because of my photosensitivity, which is caused by "my" Systemic Lupus and MCTD...
... That is the reason why I am with a wide-brimmed hat and protective sunglasses whilst outside...
...and added to this, I better watch out in the future about anti-hypertensives like "Ramipril"...
Thanks again from Kristina.

If your kidneys don't work, they can't 'activate' the vitamins from the sun, so don't bother about the sunbeds (if you're doing it for vit.D)
I've started eating quite a bid of cashewnuts in stead of taking Alpha calcidol, as my Ca kept rising.
There's calcitriol in cashewnuts, and I like them, and my Ca and Vits are okay

I love cashews and peanuts and will ets them occasionally but they are high in potassium doi am not sure about eating them on a regular basis. I also love twiglets!!!!
