Title: Severe chest pain starting towards the last 2 hours and after dialysis
Post by: jo on January 10, 2015, 05:41:15 PM
For the past 2 weeks, my mom has been having chest pains starting during the last 2 hours of dialysis session and it remains until the next day or so. Right now, she says it is very severe and we are thinking about taking her to the ER. Does anyone know what's going on? They actually increased her blood flow rate to 450 mL 2 weeks ago and the amount they are trying to pull is about 3.6 L every session with a UF rate set to 900 for 4 hours. We tried requesting them to pull less, but we were asked to do home hemo if we don't like them pulling that much off and we were told that they cannot set the dialyzer at a lower rate just for my mom as they have to treat other patients as well. We did several heart tests recently including echo, stress test, etc., and they said her heart looks normal. But, she has a blood clot for which she has been put under warfarin for the past 3 months. My concern right now is why is my mom getting chest pains? Can anyone help us asap? Thanks.

I have 1 kilo removed at most sessions they are supposed to take off the difference between your dry weight and what you weigh before dialysis. For example if my dry weight is 100 kilos And I arrive at 102 kilos they should take off 2 kilos.  101 1 kilo, 104 4 kilos.  To take off 4 kilos unless your mother is 4 kilos over dry weight is criminal.  The more they take off the more stress your body and heart is under.  The amount they take off is as it should be a changeable setting.  If they are taking your mother below dry weight file a formal complaint with the people who certify your center.

So pulling more fluid than normal is what causing the chest pains?

Thanks, noahvale for including those links. Everyone would benefit from reading them. I learn something new every time I read them, particularly about the "Dialysis Waterfall"...(fluid removal rate, forced-driven thirst, heart stunning...)
