Title: Sudden spike in creatine? Help
Post by: amoeba on November 28, 2014, 10:13:23 PM
Hi there, good to have a support group. My kidney function was holding steady for a while and suddenly dropped worse, is there something short term I can do?

Some background.
2008 - Diagnosed with IGA, GFR 38
2011 - GFR 34
Last month: Kidney infection, creatine 8.5/GFR of 7, sent to hospital, biopsy reveal IGA not active.
Beginning of Nov: creatine of 6.8/GFR of 9.
End of Nov (Today): creatine of 8.3/GFR of 7!

My primary care doc just ran the blood test for me and somehow in one month my kidney function dropped substantially, but the urine/blood tests don't show any infection. Does this mean I'm actively being attacked by IGA? Is there something doctors can do about it?

I'm frustrated by the fact that my nephrologist's appointment is not until next friday, and he's very hard to reach until clinic time. I'm trying to avoid dialysis as long as I can and I'm feeling fine, but the numbers are very scary and progressing the wrong way...

That info isnt good. I cant diagnose you and dont have much to go on , but I think your kidneys have been damaged by the disease . Even if not currently active it probably did the damage over many years and finally the kidneys are showing the damage . An ultrasound or CT scan of the size and shape of the kidneys would be helpful. It certainly isnt good to see such a drop with such high creatinine over the past 2 months.  Sorry.  I hope you can see your nephrologist ASAP.      Good Luck.
