Title: Newcomer says hi
Post by: w00dmann on November 22, 2014, 08:41:55 AM
Hi everybody, I am a mid 40's yo guy with IGA nephropathy, have been managing & living with it for 15 years and have approx. 15 - 18% kidney function remaining at this point.  As such I am pre-dialysis and I really hope everybody is okay with me visiting and participating in this forum!  There is a wealth of knowledge and experience I'm hoping to connect with.  Thinking forward to dialysis, I almost certainly will choose peritoneal dialysis with the "overnight glug-glug machine" option.  Keen to touch base with other folks who have gone and are going through dialysis and can offer any tips / knowledge / advice, particularly as regards dietary advice.  Thanks!

Welcome!  Glad to hear you are already informed about your options for dialysis and what you want to do to continue to live your life on your terms.  PD is a great option, allows a lot of flexibility in your diet, and no blood (hopefully!)

Hi there w00dman, and welcome!  I did PD with the overnight cycler as I thought it was the best option for me and the lifestyle I wanted to live. Best of luck with your journey and do ask away, there are some very knowledgeable folks on these boards.

Hi and welcome.  I at first choice chose pd  because it seemed easier. After having 2 minor infections and learning about home hemo that's what I choose. I  must say I've only been doing this for 1 month and never actually did pd just had the cath,  though I am feeling better than I have in years.  I have young kids and love swimming and getting dirty.  I'm still training should be done next week.
