Title: PD in other country.
Post by: orion on September 10, 2014, 01:19:38 AM
I live in taiwan, and I travel to japan several times before my PD.
After I get my PD, I have been noticed by baxter I can't have the fluid locally in japan if I go to there, I need to carry them by myself.
It's nearly impossible to carry so many fluid bags with me.
there is a Baxter subcompany in japan, and other east asian country like China, Korea's baxter they all accept foreigner patient.
I wonder does japanese Baxter deny all   foreigner 's request, or just the people from Taiwan?for what reason?
If  American go to japan they still need to carry the bag?

Someone should answer you.  I would think the boxes could be shipped ahead of time to the place where you are staying...  I am on Hemo so I don't know.  It just seems to be reasonable.

I don't know why you're having this problem. You should call Baxter or have your nurse call Baxter. Is it possible you're not giving them enough notice? I think I remember that here in the US they require 4 weeks notice for international travel/deliveries.

I have traveled from the US to other countries at least 3 times and always been able to coordinate the delivery of my PD solutions via Baxter.  They have international locations, so it isn't a big deal for them.  You are required to give them at least 8 weeks notice and pay $100 for a handling fee along with the cost of the solutions.  Baxter then works with their local distributors to deliver the products to your destination a few days in advance.

You should be able to arrange for this via the same contacts with whom you arrange your monthly delivery of solution.  Also, your nurse can help too.

Good luck!

The used to deliver fluid to japan in the past, but they cancel the service since last year.they also cancel this service in philippine.
If I go to japan , I need to carry fluid, or buy them locally(no insurance of course, and you need local doctor's medical prescription)
It's told by taiwan Baxter's stuff, and no one can tell me why.
I can't even know its only for taiwanese or all people from other country.

When I was doing PD here in Okinawa, Japan.  My supplies came from Baxter Japan.  When I did business trips to Orlando, my Japanese doctor would write the prescription to Baxter Japan, who would contact Baxter US to deliver it to the hotels I would be staying at.  When I returned to Okinawa, I would get a bill from Baxter Japan.  Could you ask your doctor in Taiwan to contact a kidney doctor in Japan, to explain your situation and have the Japanese doctor write the prescription to Baxter Japan.  You should be able to travel mostly anywhere and have Baxter deliver it to your hotel or address where you'll be staying at.  The key is to plan ahead and give yourself time for everyone to get in sync and deliver your PD supplies.  Good luck.
