Title: Renal diet to beat the Flu virus!
Post by: jo on June 23, 2014, 12:41:15 PM
Hi,

My mom is on hemodialysis for the past 3 months. Since the past four days, she has been having pneumonia like symptoms (non-stop coughing, fever, chills, lack of oxygen, breathing problems, headaches, etc.,) and today, the doctors said that they didn't find any signs of pneumonia and they diagnosed the cause of the condition as a viral Flu. Does a Flu cause all these symptoms? She is diabetic too. She does in center dialysis 3 times a week. Right now, she still feels sick with fever, severe ear pain and head pain and all of the symptoms mentioned above. I know you would have to drink a lot of fluids and get hydrated to get rid of the Flu. What would be the best diet that she needs to follow at this time to get rid of the Flu? I am worried about her condition right now as it makes her very uncomforable for the upcoming dialysis sessions. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

What "doctors" did you take her to?  A Nephrologist is a Kidney Specialist and probably doesn't know squat about flu or Pneumonia.  Maybe take her to her own GP or urgent care if she is having trouble breathing.  She may need to go in for a "PUFF".  That is where she goes to dialysis on her off day and they hook her up and just pull fluid.
