Title: what about weight gain?
Post by: leafsunbear on March 19, 2007, 07:28:33 AM
All this talk about weight lose and I need to gain weight.  I am very frustrated by all the "diet" info that is available.  None of it talks about how to gain weight.  I was even told it should be easy to gain weight, just eat everything the diets tell you not to.  I wish it were that simple.  I do try to eat high calorie things, like ice cream and frozen almond snickers bars.  I can only eat so much of that though.  I try to drink nephro, but I can only handle about half a can at a time.  The stuff upsets my stomach.  So do most protein powders.  The trader joe's stuff is the best tasting protein powder I have found yet.  Anyone have any suggestion for weight gain programs?  Can some of these diet planning websites help me gain weight?  I am wasting away and I need help soon.  I am down to 66kg's from 78kg's in just over a year and a half.  I am scared about this and there doesn't seem to be much about it anywhere.  There have got to be other's that are having trouble with weight lose...

What does your doctor say is the reason your losing weight like that?

My doctor doesn't say much at all and I am happy with that.  I do most of the saying when it comes to my health.  I am losing weight like this because I do not get enough calories in a day.  Also I don't get enough fat's and proteins in.  It is very hard for me to eat most things anyways.  So really I am not sure what I am asking for.  I just wonder why there isn't more info about weight gain.

I think there isn't alot of info about weight gain, because people usually have no problems gaining weight on dialysis, it's the losing that is hard. If you know your not getting enough calories and such, why not make sure you fit those in your diet before anything else?

I try to do that, but it is on my own knowledge that allows me to do that.  My knowledge may be flawed or not complete or even completely wrong.   That is why I would like there to be more info n weight gain.  Not only for dialysis patients though.  I know that there are lots of other ailments that cause weight lose and these people need to gain weight too.  That is why I ask why not more about how to gain weight.  When I google it all I find is body builder info and that is not really all that helpfull.  Basically they just tell you to eat a ton of food and take their weight gain shakes.  What about cancer patients or people with IBS or Crohn's patients?  Where is there info to help them gain weight or just keep it on?  Would something like Nutrimaps.com be able to help us?  I will have to email the people at nutrimaps and see what they have to say.

Being overweight and not losing is frustrating, but losing it when you don't want to sounds far worse.  I've been watching my 89 yr old grandmother slowly disappear from a combination of age and IBS symptoms.  She eats more than I do by far, but can't seem to hold on to any of it.  Her doctor just shrugs and says there is nothing he can do for her, so if you come up with any answers, please post them.  I could use some bright ideas.

Good luck!

My sister is a nurse who has been taking care of cancer patients.  The doctors have been prescribing Marinol which is a derivative of marijuana, the part that gives you the munchies.  My uncle was offered this also when he had cancer.  go to
marinol.com

Nephro and drinks like it should be good for grandma's IBS and nutrition.
