I had a bone densitometry done recently that appears really bad. I'm not sure if this was helping.

What are your calcium, phosphorus, and parathyroid levels? Any medications that effect that system? Are you on dialysis and what type are you on? Are you pre menopuasal or post, and if post are you on hormone replacement? What are your bun , creatinine and heme and alkaline phosphatase numbers? That would all help to know more.
Tha active form is actually 1,25, dihydroxy vit. D . This only occurs in the kidneys. So kidney disease itself can create this deficiency. however we generally measure 25 vit D blood levels first. Your numbers improved dramatically over time. . How did that occur? Did you take supplements or meds?

I thought everyone on dialysis was deficient in Vit D. I don't believe they want to keep you there. It just is one of those things, along with a million others, that go wrong for us on dialysis. The treatment varies depending on your calcium and phosphorus levels and how much freedom you have with your diet. What have they told you?
