My name is Patrick. I first learned of my kidney failure in 1997 in Tampa my diagnosis was due to hypertension they thought . I avoided dialysis for two years and started dialysis in 1999. I had a AVF placed In my left forearm and started 3x week treatments. The fistula failed soon after and the surgeon couldn't fix it so he placed a graft in my upper arm in hindsight I never should have allowed him to do this but I didn't know any better at that time. At this time my Neph told me about nocturnal dialysis and I was hooked. In 2001 I returned to NY for my 30th HS reunion and decided to relocate back. I started in center treatments and actively started looking into nocturnal treatments at home. The first clinic I found never worked out but I soon hit pay dirt with the Rogosin Institute in NYC this was the best thing that happened to me CKD wise NYC was light years ahead of Tampa. I started Home hemo in 2003 using a Fresenius 2008 h. The graft gave me a lot of trouble but at least they had Doctors who could take care of this very easily I might add Dialysis access was their speciality not an extra source of income . The graft finally failed in 2005 and was removed and my original AVF was revised by a very talented young surgeon who really took dialysis access seriously and it has been working very well ever since . I moved upstate in 2007 but kept my docs and clinic in NYC. I started having problems with my well producing enough water for the RO and I switched to the Nxstage System One . I dialyze 5 x a week for 5 hrs each . My diagnosis was recently changed to polycystic kidney disease. That's it for now .
