Former KCAL 9 Editor To Undergo Kidney Transplant
(CBS) LOS ANGELES Despite the sometimes fierce competition between TV news stations, a morning anchor from a rival station is reaching out to help former KCAL 9 news editor Dale Davis by giving the gift of life - a kidney.
Davis' friends put out a call for help in December to help him raise money for kidney transplant surgery and to find a donor match. Out of the thousands of emails and phone calls that poured in, wanting to help Davis, one of his own friends was a perfect match - ABC 7 morning news anchor Phillip Palmer.
"When I started this process, I was, you know, probably, like most people, somewhat cynical about the people around me, but this has opened my eyes," Davis said.
"All you hear is about what a bad place the world is, and I just couldn't disagree more."
The surgery will take place at St. Vincent's Hospital Wednesday.
