Title: muscle cramps
Post by: Sandi1313 on October 13, 2013, 02:33:27 PM
Hello once more,
For a while I was not having any painful muscle cramps. Then on Thursday,I started having some painful muscle cramps in my upper left thigh. It seems like it took forever
to have a tech. named James to do anything about this.He took his sweet time.In reprogramming the machine. It seems like I had made him angry cause I had told him that I was having some muscle cramps.I had been told to let the staff know Asp that I was having any muscle cramps at all.I'm beginning to wonder WHY do I ever show up fof dialysis on Thursdays.Especially when this tech named James make me feel like I'm NOT suppose to SAY anything about these painful muscle cramps.I think I need to file a complaint this week about what had happened  on Thursday.Hoping this won't happened again.Plus at my dialysis center ,there is NOW a new rule pertaining to us dialysis patients. We are NO LONGER ALLOW to bring any liquids to drink during our session.I was bringing some liquids to drink whenever I start to feel a muscle cramp.I think that the staff should NOT be ALLOW to have their coffee or any hot drink in front of us patients or in their staff room.

Muscle cramps can really be painful and you will have a sore muscle for a couple of days.
The tech's will generally give you some saline as you lower your legs to the floor and the cramp will subside.

I have found that if I elevate my legs the first half of the treatment and lower them during the second half that I can avoid getting cramps. If I elevate my legs for the entire treatment I am almost guaranteed to have a cramp.

If I do feel one coming on I lower my legs and and have something to drink (my unit does not have the no-drink rule yet) and let the staff know if it gets worse.

It may be possible that your dry weight has changed if you get  cramps all the time.

If I get a cramp at home after dialysis I will eat a small gherkin pickle and it will take care of it.
