Title: Sleep tips?
Post by: CatonTheRoof on October 13, 2013, 11:31:29 AM
Has anyone got problems of feeling sleepy during the day?  I'm on nocturnal peritoneal dialysis and every night I sleep around 9 hours, and I sleep comfortably.   However, many times I keep feeling sleepy during the day. Anyone has got this?    could it be because I go late to sleep? (1:15 am)

I think you answered your own question. Why dont you try going to bed a little earlier and see if that helps. Perhaps your body clock needs an earlier bed time . Try 11:00  or 11:30 and see if it helps over a week or 2. Be consistant with what you do.
Also some medications cause daytime somnolence. What meds are you on.  If you dont want to post it here , send me a persanal message. I can at least tell you if some of the meds have that side effect in general. I wont give direct medical advice but can at least give general info.
Also, do you exercise? Exercise is one of the best ways to reduce daytime somnolence. Even a simple brisk walk helps.

In addition to your meds, how is your hemoglobin? I know when my anemia is kicking up, I get tired.

My hemoglobin has stayed naturally around 12 last couple of weeks.  I'm 181 cm tall, 24 years old.

Of medicine, I'm just taking folic acid,  calcitriol,  and  1/4  Of metoprolol every 24 hours.

Have been going to the gym regularly for the last month and a half.

Have your glucose and thyroid checked. Occult diabetes and hypo thyroidism can cause that also. In addition you may want an endocrine consult for testosterone and other hormones.

Well I'm going earlier to bed and it seems to be working!  What else?   I have discovered I generally get this sleepiness after I eat (specially lunch)     so I'm taking a siesta now :D
