Title: Travelling with dialysis and insurance
Post by: amykathleen2005 on September 18, 2013, 07:43:58 PM
Hi,

Ok, we have private health insurance (Medical Mutual). We want to go to Disney World in the spring. How does this work? Will it just be an out of network thing? I searched on the Medical Mutual website and there are no Florida dialysis centers listed for our network.

Any thoughts or experiences would be most helpful.

Have your social worker work out the details. They should be able to find out who can provide you service while you are at the World.

Depends on your insurance.  I am from Illinois and Blue Cross Blue Shield had no issue covering my dialysis when I was in South Dakota on vacation.

I agree that your social worker is your first point of contact.  Ask now, especially for Disney World because they will have to start the paperwork asap to get you a chair.

We traveled to Florida from NY in May. We just had to pay a $25 copay for both of the dialysis sessions Frank had down there.
