My wife is on Nxstage at home 5 days per week. I have been runnung it for her for a year now. The dialysate is amazing fertilzer. I run the drain line into a bucket and capture it. Then I dump it on my fruit trees and shrubs outside. The trees are laden with fruit this year. Best year EVER. Peaches and apples . 18 trees. The trees are lush with foliage also. Our nephrologist calls the peaches , PEE-CHES. Try it if you have a Nxstage machine . The used dialysate is full of nitrogen and other nutrients that plants and trees love. Just dont let the drain line submerge in the fluid or it will back up. Our place here in Maine is greener than ever since NxStage has been fertilizing it.

BRAVO!! I have been wanting to try this so it's sooooooooo neat to hear of someone who did it!! I wonder, do you know too if the left over left in the sak is also good for that? Occasionally, i have way to much left due to hosp visits or whatnot. Thanks for sharing. I know others have wondered this too :)

I have used the left over saks also,as well as the solution bags, but there is a lot less nitrogen in them . The waste from dialysis has all the good nitrogen that is being removed during dialysis so its the best . Its great recylcling this way. I have never seen this place so green in the 24 years we have been here. !!

Thats pretty neat! When I had to switch from PD to in center hemo I was left with a TON of unused dialysite bags, we opened them all and dumped them onto my garden beds... however the beds were empty, had nothing planted in them yet. :lol;

What a neat trick.....and sustainable use too!
