Hi, I'm Stage 4 eGFR 20 with phosphorus of 4.7 Doctor wants me to start taking binders. Is this normal at this stage? Thanks

They are trying to save your bones. When your phosphorus is high your body wants to match it's high number with a high calcium number and guess where it goes to get more calcium to match your high phosphorus?? YOUR BONES.
Snap, Crackle, Pop.
:oops;

That sounds about right. My phos is a bit higher (6.7 last check) and my binder is just 1 extra strength tums with 1 meal per day. Don't even need a prescription-got a monster-sized bottle at Costco! Now if I can only remember to take it when I eat!

FYI Binders will make you constipated depending how much you take i take 3 or 4 Renvela 800MG with each meal . I take Fiber gummies & stool softeners it helps alot

Timely post as I was wondering the same thing. GFR at 15 with phos just about where yours is and was just given the Renvela script. Appreciate the post and replies.

My phos was high and my calcium low. My docs prescribed calcium acetate (generic for Phoslo). I haven't experienced any gastro or constipation problems on it.
