Title: Major question for those on D
Post by: mamagemini on May 24, 2013, 10:47:27 AM
when I come back on Monday to get my dialysis...the past 3 Tuesdays I am vomiting. This past Tuesday I was very bad. I vomited 3 times and had diarrhea. I think stomach flu was thrown in that time on top of regular Tuesday vomiting.
I think they are dehydrating me. What do you all think or know that is happening. I am afraid of Tuesdays now!! :'( :'( :'( :'(

Mamagemini, too much water is coming off.  Next time you go do D on a Monday, a least leave on one pound of water and see what happens.  For example, you come in with 4lbs, only take off 3lbs and see if you still vomit.   If this keeps happening , you should see a doctor. It could be something serious if it’s not a too much water take off problem.

Keep me posted as I am curious why you are vomiting

Thanks.

If it's only when you have that much fluid on, it may be your body just can't release it fast enough to keep up with the machine pulling the fluid.  I had to drastically limit my intake over the weekends to keep from getting sick after my double day off.  My body just couldn't handle what the docs called an acceptable amount.  Are you have problems the other sessions?  And how much are you taking off then?  Are you getting to the same dry weight every day of the week, and only having problems on Monday?

Taking off less is always the first thing try, of course, but if you are then leaving the extra on until Wednesday, and you still drink your usual amount, you've only delayed the problem.   :P

Well I think that too. To much fluid coming off. Here is the thing ....my dry weight is 83.5. I come in sometimes 84 or 84.5....rarely have I come in at 85. So what I am doing is asking them to put some of it back on.  This past Monday I fell asleep and woke up too late to get it all on so only 200 went back on....not enough.
I had major vomiting and diarrhea. Nothing would stay down that was solid.
They are only taking the minimum off of me on my days in.
The only thing I can think is that I started Probiotics this month but those are mild. Maybe they don't interact we'll with Heperain or bp pills?
I know my calcium is up and the phosphorus is too. I don't know this is driving me cuckoo. :urcrazy;

if you're falling asleep or forgetting to ask to have the fluid put back on, maybe you should start taking a drink in with you to have halfway through the run.  That will put the fluid back on as well, if the nurse/tech/whoever doesn't remember to do it for you.

Ok we think we have it figured out. It is dehydration. What they are taking off is what I have put in. I do not have excess right now. We put back on what they took off on Monday and no sickness Tuesday! So, so far so good. Hopefully this keeps up. today we did the same. Keep fingers crossed! :thumbup;

Everyone is different when it comes to fluid removal.  I don't tolerate it very well, but i noticed it was more about volume per hour than volume itself.  My perfect session would be 200ml to 220ml per hour.  Luckily i do 9-10 hours.

What did strike me as strange was the comment out them putting back in what they take out. Unless this was a on-off test, I would not recommend it ongoing.  If a person does not have an excess then don't remove any.  I say this because the body can react differently to the machine removing fluid.  It is the aggressive fluid removal that creates most of the symptoms.
