So far the doctor at my Davita center wants to change:
Sodium use to none. It took three treatments for me to prove to them that was not going to work for me. 14 and a half years on dialysis using sodium from almost year 2 because I cramp in the middle of treatment with out it. My tech took me off it and I promptly crashed and cramped on him int he middle of treatment three times. The sodium is back on my machine for me so far.
Benadryl to no one. They claim we get addicted to it. Benadryl helps block all of the noise I hear all night long in the dialysis center. Without it I will lose my freaking mind! Watch me. It will beinteresting when I hve had enough of the low TV that is on without headphones, and the machine that goes squeaky squawky all night long in my ear. With the drugs I can at least get the brain to relax and tune it all out.
No more button holes. Seem buttonholes are causing more infection in center than regular sticks. I will discuss it with my surgeon before we start sticking the revamped fistula in a few weeks.
I looked at my tech and said, it looks like the doc and I are not going to see eye to eye on a few things, huh? He laughed.

It's not his position. You need benedryl, you get benedryl. You are the patient, he works on your needs. Your paying him, not the other way around.
Your treatment will be run how it runs best for you, not how it can be best cheaply run.
What an ignorant P.O.S.

It seems we will all be held hostage by these super companies attempts at catorigizing everyone on dialysis as being exactly the same in attempts to raise profits. I hope your successful at getting what you need and want but we are "captive" to them. Just a number in a database to be analyzed for cost vs benefit analysis. It's sad but true. They took away Benadryl years ago and prescribed Xanax then they wouldn't write for the Xanax so I've had to find doctors the will. I'm not sure there is much we can do to change, it's like everything else in today's world the walmarts dictate what we get!! Right down to how many peices of gauze they use. I can't even get in for a full nephrology appointment because Medicare won't pay for anything more than the 5 minute visits I get in the unit!! CRAZY!!
