Title: Dentistry. Not sure where topic should go!!
Post by: geoffcamp on April 18, 2013, 02:14:14 AM
As probably everyone here know that having ESRD and being on dialysis fr VERY long periods of of time dental issues seem to become a problem. Since Medicare and my private insurance company do not seem to cover helping me get my teeth fixed I was wondering what others experiences have been. I have chipped, cracked and enamel missing from around the gum line from having ESRD, dialysis and taking many antibiotics. I really really need to have some dental work done but the prices are CRAZY  ???  My socIal workers are basically useless and I'm wondering if anyone has had this issue and how they resolved it. My teeth and gums being in the condition they are in right now I'm actually afraid of infection in my mouth!  Now don't get me wrong i use antiseptic mouthwash and brush my teeth well and at least 2 times a day. It's difficult to tell by looking at me because there seems to be one side of my mouth that is worse than the other. I certainly can not afford what these dentists have been quoting price wise for the work and I'm looking into dental schools to keep cots down but I want it done right the first time!!  Any one else out there having my issues!?  It also really effects my self esteem. THX all G.

Are there any colleges in the area that have a Dental School?  They would have clinics for the students doctors & it might be a cheeper way to go.

Honestly Geoff, I have decided that if my teeth get to where I could buy a house or get my teeth fixed.... I'd get dentures and have enough money to still buy a house!  Farrah Fawcett white big nice smile teeth.  Then it would be "medical" and maybe Medicare would pay.  I'd have to look into that.  I know for vision... once I was diagnosed with Glaucoma then it was "Medical" and not "Vision".  Whatever??  Anyway.  Dentists now a days want you to keep your teeth no mater what!  50 years a go people just went in and got dentures.  That is what I'm going to do when the time comes.

I have 1 broken tooth. I finally got up the courage to see a dentist. I knew it was infected because it was draining. The dentist gave me antibiotics andsent me to a dental surgeon. Just to get it pulled will be over $100 and that's with dental insurance.
I wish I could give you insight. Maybe try to find a dentist that will take monthly payments.

Here in California ( the golden state) if you have medicare and then get the supplemental medical ( I think it is called Medigap) You can buy Dental Insurance for about $15.00 a month. I understand that still can add up, but sure have no other ideas as to what to do. I got lucky and had all of my teeth out at a very young age, so that problem is solved forever.Good luck to you.
