Title: My First at home Nxstage treatment!
Post by: Leanne on March 11, 2013, 09:25:02 AM
Woohoo! Taking my first NxStage treatment in MY living room right now!  With my buttonholes up and running!  Finally and so far all is going great.  We trained forfour weeks so been looking forward to this.  In my pajamas too.  It's the little things that please me .  So if it keeps going well no more three hour round trips for in center.  And I do find that I am starting to feel better so that is another bonus.  And I can drink morefluid which feels like I hit the lottery.  I just was so happy that I had to share with you guys. And Im so proud of Marc too.  From day three of training he did the the sticking.  First with sharps then with the blunts.  So he totally made my buttonholes.  Finally a bit of good with all this!  :yahoo;

Congrats!  NxStage is great!

As a word of warning...don't get discouraged if you have some rocky treatments.  You will forget to clamp your lines or pinch the drain line in the Pureflow or your buttonholes won't cooperate, etc.  Just take a deep breath!  It will get better!

I just switched from Short Daily to Nocturnal on the NxStage.  We are still getting used to the changes, but I know we'll work the bugs out.  We kept getting alarms during our second treatment - I ended up sleeping sitting up to stop the alarms!  The fix was to flip the arterial needle around.  So far so good!

Congratulations! I am starting week 2 of my training and am really looking forward to being at home. Very happy that it is working out for you. Keep us posted as you continue at home. I am hoping to learn from those who have gone before me!

Now that your're home it will start becoming less daunting. And once you develop a routine then it will get better still.

Remember your training and stick with it.

Congratulations!

It went very well I think.  We went thru several needles though.  Just couldnt get them to pop in but We kept going.  Coming off he forgot a clamp and had a bit of a leak but mostly I was pleased.  Im going to try to stay positive and just keep going with it.  Make the best of a bad thing.  Luckily no alarms.  And yay for more fluid!  I was dying of thirst before so this is much better.

Even after 4 weeks of training and then the frst whole week home with the nurse, my needles still were tough to get in. I couldn't feel a track even though the nurse said they felt great to her. Then one day the needles just started to slide in without a hitch.

Everyone has had a clamp or some other issue. It's bound to happen.That you caught it and it was no big deal is the bigger picture. Good job.

Give it a little time and I think it'll get even better still.

 :clap;   :2thumbsup;  such a wonderful feeling to know you CAN do it.  UPs and downs still perhaps, but old hat with time.  I actually think that the most of it is all good, just the doubts and 'wonders' if all is ok is the worst...  confidence and upward and onward,  Proud of ya both!!!   :grouphug;  And since im always too exhausted thes days to wrtie all of you 'new to nxStagers',  Im proud of one and all.  what a way to take control!!  ;D

Sounds like you & "your Angel" are off to a good start!  You are going to love this NxStage!  Can you feel the difference yet?  I pray we never have to go back to In-center!  It is a whole different world at home, aint it?  Once you are on your own, you can set your own times.  No body looking over your shoulder, telling Yes & No!  It is definately "freeing" in that aspect!

So proud of you new folks!   It takes "grit" to step up and want to take control of your life.  It is still dialysis, though!  But it is done on your terms, and that is the beauty of it!

Congrats guys!

God Bless,
lmunchkin :kickstart;
