Title: Seeking information about new heathcare act.
Post by: geoffcamp on January 17, 2013, 03:51:34 AM
Hi all, I must admit I have not been keeping up with this topic and was hoping to get some thoughts and information here. Is there anyone that can give me a cliff notes idea of how this new heathcare act changes the way my dialysis is paid for and if any benefits are being taken away. Links to any articles or information would be great too. I'm going to read thru this section on my own to see what I can learn too. Just FYI. My case. I'm 43 have been on prinoneal dialysis for a short time then hemo for the rest of my dialysis treatments. I am on medicare and medicare part D. I have a private insurance gap policy via United American. I started dialysis in 1996 (peritoneal) received a transplant in 1999 and lost the transplant in 2001 since then I have been doing hemo. I look forward to getting more informed. Thanks G.

Obamacare is about Health Insurance access and as such it doesn't really effect people who need dialysis since we already have access to health insurance via Medicare. The recent tax legislation - aka the fiscal cliff bill - made some changes relating to the bundle and the sequestration might also change how much units are paid per a treatment but both these pieces of legislation relate to how much the unit is paid each treatment.

For people already using dialysis, who are already Medicare Primary and who already have secondary (gap) insurance, it will be business as usual.
