My teeth started to shift after my kidneys shut down. I now have a large gap between my upper middle teeth and lower another gap off center on the right, ( it looks like a lightning bolt). The mistake was at the age of 42 and with all the pain I'm in now with dialysis I went and got braces. I was not expecting it to hurt as much as it does, I can not sleep or eat with out undo pain. I need to get them removed, but I hate the fact that I spent a lot of $$$ on them and I hate wasting my time and money. I guess I was trying to fix to many problems at one time, I guess my teeth can wait until after I get a transplant. I guess next time I will just get veneers. ;D

Don't your braces have the ability to have adjustments made - tightened or loosened? It sounds as though they should be eased off a little. I don't think they should HURT - just a little ache for a day or so after an adjustment. And I would think definitely no gaps unless the gaps have been planned for future expansions.

I wish that was the case, but I've had for weeks now, had 3 visits and no help. They have been loosened and even repositioned and the pain is constant, I just have not tolerance for pain anymore.

OUCH!

Sounds like you need a better orthodontist. Braces should not constantly HURT, like Mary said. I'd get a second opinion. It could be possible it's something more to do with your teeth, perhaps. Like maybe you need a palate expander or your gums are overgrown? When I had my first tx the immunos made my gums grown big and I developed a large gap between my two front teeth. I had to have my gums shaved down with a hot iron like thing. It didn't fix the gap though.
Good luck!
