I have a perma-cath, on the right side of my chest/shoulder. I have one remaining stitch in my skin that is holding the catheter in place. It has been rubbing my skin raw and now I have a blister near the site. It's so uncomfortable, there's no infection (I had my doctor and nurse) check it today.
Any suggestions on what I can do? Should I have the stitch removed? Is there anything I can put on it to ease the pain? ???

Can you put a piece of gauze between the tube and your skin? Is it taped down well, so it doesn't wiggle all over? I had a perma-cath for a bit more than a month after my transplant for plasmapherisis treatments and couldn't even bring myself to look at it, it totally freaked me out. Blistering is unacceptable. I hope you find a solution!

Yes, have the doctor remove it. I was having so much pain because of one final stitch. It was painful to remove because it was on a nerve or stuck to one. Ouch...LOL Good luck.

I had permacath stitches that irritated me so my neph demanded to the staff they needed to come out.

Thanks all. I think I may have the staff take it out tomorrow? It's just so sensitive I don't know if I even want to have it come out! I know it will feel better once it does... I had another stitch at the top of the catheter (where they made an incision to place it) and it hurt like hell coming out, but after it healed up fast and I felt great. I guess I will grin and bear it. :P
@ Sax- I do have gauze over and around it, because like you, I can't stand the sight of it. I was on PD previously and that grossed me out for the longest time too. I was thankful to keep the area covered. I make sure the staff cover it every time, and change it every time I go for Hemo.

Will the cath stay put without the stitch? One of my stitches was buried pretty deep and the resident had a heck of a time digging it out (hurt like heck). I hope you get this resolved soon!

Hey all. I had the stitch removed today and it came out no problem... I still have pain where it was though...like a burning sensation. The nurse said that it looked okay and there shouldn't be any more issues.... I retaped it to hold it in place so it doesn't rub as much, and it seems to be helping.... I think I may call the surgeon though, just to be safe and have him look at it...???

Better safe than sorry. Consulting your surgeon is a good idea.
