Laurie has suffered yet another set back ! Finally things were starting to improve a little after the switch to haemo . Monday night we had to rush back to emergency as his shortness of breath was worsening . to cut a long story short- after many investigations and tests , the diagnosis is not good . They say he has had at least three heart attacks and now the main aortic valve is badly damaged . The cardiologist does not think he is strong enough for the surgery required to fix it and is reluctant to do an angiogram as he has dry gangrene in his feet and an infection . There is going to be a case conference with all involved in his care to work out the best plan of action .
At present he is in the coronary care unit on monitors and oxygen . They bring the dialysis machine and a portable water tank to him along with a dialysis nurse , he is receiving the best of care but it is scary stuff . Prayers or fingers crossed once again please .

Oh Brenda! Fingers are crossed down here :grouphug;

That sounds so awful. I hope they can figure things out. He must feel so bad with all that stuff.
-
Brenda, I'm so sorry you and Laurie have another problem to overcome. I hope Laurie is resting comfortably, and that you have been taking care of yourself. you said he is receiving the best of care and that is always a comforting thought when you are worried and frightened for a loved one who is ill. As always you both have my wishes for recovery and peace of heart and mind.

AM so sorry to hear this you are both in my prayers xx
-
:grouphug; and :pray; for the both of you

Brenda, Hope they sort things out, it is so worrying when this happens .My husband is in the same position, very weak heart due to heart attacks and every little procedure has to go through the cardiologist.and then the anesthetist. Things will work out for you, have faith.
-
I hope they will be able to figure out a good plan that works. My prayers are with you both.

Just to update - The angiogram was performed and the findings were - he has severe stenosis of the main aortic valve and 98% per cent blocked minor artery . His renal team along with the cardiology people have decided surgery is the only way it can be fixed and in their opinion he would not survive the operation . He will be treated " medically " - which means giving him two forms of aspirin . He has also been started on Warfarin ( blood thinners ) to get rid of the clots in his lungs .
His neph has upped the dialysis to get the best possible clearances and keep as much fluid off as possible so as to not put extra strain on his heart .
We have been told quite bluntly that the prognosis is not good but we are not dwelling on that and have decided it will be business as usual . We will just face each challenge as it presents itself .
Laurie was discharged from hospital the Thursday before Christmas and is doing quite well , his appetite is good and he is in quite good spirits at present
The dry gangrene of the toes has yet to be resolved and we are waiting to be readmitted to sort this out . I will ring the eye specialist this week to reschedule his operation to remove his cataract - hopefully he will still be willing to do it in light of the latest problems .
Thank you everyone for your good wishes and I trust you all had a good Christmas and Happy New Year to you all . Brenda

:grouphug; and all the best wishes and prayers... Sometimes it's so hard and i wonder where 'our' strength comes from to keep it up. I know for me it's through prayer, but i still feel as im going to crumble at times. I hope your getting some rest, though i know whats its like when a new "blow" hits. Praying for the best for you both... and im so sorry for this hard time... :cuddle;

Brenda, I'm so glad Laurie was discharged and able to be home for Christmas. It sounds like he is doing well. I like your fighting spirit and determination to meet each challenge as it comes. Wishing you both a happy new year with fewer challenges and many more less stressful days.
-
Brenda, thinking about you both.

Wow, new here, but in reading your post... your husband's situation sounds so much like my dad, with the heart trouble, etc. And, it does seem like it is just one thing after another to the point that you do wonder what the heck else these poor folks have to go through. You are in my prayers....
