Title: Big bill from Davita???
Post by: kiddogal on December 04, 2012, 07:14:32 PM
Hubby has been on dialysis since last April.  Today I got a bill from Davita for $738.00 for the billing period 8/1/12 to 8/31/12.  ???????  Between Medicare and his healthcare insurance supplemental, I can't imagine that this would not been paid by insurance.  We are either at dialysis, doctors, or hospitals and I can't imagine that his deductible for this year has not been met.  Billing office as closed today...have to call in the AM.  Any ideas what this could be for?  We did not do dialysis at any other centers in August.  I am also going to post this in the Medicare/Insurance section....thanks....

Just take the bill straight to your social worker and ask her to find out what is happening. That's what they are there for.

Medicare typically covers 80%, which means this is about what you would expect for the non-medicare portion at about $300 treatment for 12 treatments in a month (ok, so a month is > 4 weeks, but it's an approximation).  My guess is that the supplemental insurance has either not coughed up the $$ or it has not yet been credited.

My company just switched insurance companies.  Just received a bill from DaVita for . . . are you sitting down . . .

$14,438.00!!!!!!!!  I about hit the floor.  Benefits said that it was my portion to pay.  I took it in to our Social Worker, and she got it taken care of.  She handed it off to the DaVita Insurance specialist.  Every center has one.  Just ask the FA who it is, for your center and he / she can forward the info to you.

Let me know if nothing happens, I can forward you the info the Insurance specialist I deal with.  She is wonderful.
