For those of you on PD what is your Fill volume? I just had my KT/V done and my clearance level dropped. That worries me. The last time it dropped before my Dr wanted to up the amount I fluid I use during a dwell cycle. Well she up it to 2500 cc and this my my back muscles started to twitch and thru out the day, I would like spasm. So I was wondering am I just small or has anyone else had this problem?
I'm giving it a go again cuz I want my KT/V level to come back up and I have just been feeling super tired and the said that could be due to not dialyzing as well as I could be..

I fill 2000 for all my fills except the final one at the end of my cycler session when I only get 1500. I did a PET with my labs this month, so will be getting my KT/V reading on Wednesday. Hoping it's ok.

The exact same with me,a nd has been this way for 5 years now. . Although my prescription might change. I have higher UF totals when I have longer dwells.

I'm about 6 foot and 238lbs. The cycler dwells are at 3,000ml and the manual exchanges are at 2,500ml. I don't have any problems with those amounts. Grumpy

I'm on a cycler. I do 4 2000ml dwells at night for a total of 9 hours and carry a 1000ml dwell during the day. If using two greens my UF is around 1200-1300mls. I do not do any manual exchanges during the day. I absorb about 40-60% of the day fill and thus have an initial drain each night anywhere from 400-600mls. Occasionally I adjust the night dwell time down to 8 hours or even less if I work real late and have to get up early. My PD unit nurse scolded me just today about reducing the dwell time...naughty, naughty! But except for phosphorus my blood work is ALWAYS in range and more or less D-time won't effect my phosphorus levels. It's my life to live, not theirs!

The boyfriend is on the small side - 5'7" and 130 lbs at his heaviest - and he does 4 exchanges of 2000 a night and carries about 500 during the day. I don't think his frame would allow much more. Sometimes the machine gets weird and gives him an additional couple hundred and he definitely notices it!

I think the number of sessions and rather you do manuals as well as how much is a guess by your Neph. Then they adjust it based on how well you are clearing the excess water and waste from your blood via the fluid drain. I think because I'm bigger (weight) than most, I can handle more fluid and the extra fluid seems to make a difference in the amount of waste I dump. Grumpy

Thanks guys for all your input here....
Well i have no idea whats up with me! I'm 5'4 and about 150 so you would think I should be able to handle 2500 easily. But right not I have up it to 2000 and I do 7 exchanges, for 11 hours with a last fill of 800. I seem to be handling that pretty well. Thou my UF went up a bit 1150-1300. So got to watch I don't get too dehydrated.
*JOE: Good luck with you KT/V
* LULLUPIE and DRGIRLFRIEND: I give you and your boyfriend a lot of credit for being smaller framed and still able to handle a larger amount.
*WILLS: I'm the same way that i don't do a mid day exchange cuz i will absorb most of it. Then there are times i have to lower the time. most nights I stay on the full time. But there are times thing are happening in my life and i just say you know what BLEEP it!! I got to live my life.

When I was on PD - Manual Exchanges, I did 3000 or 3 Liters 4x per day. At the time I was approx 43 kilos. Talk about walking around with a lot of fluid!!!

3000ml. OMG. How tall are you??? I dont think I have known anyone to have that much. Was that towards the end of your 13 years?

My husband also used to do 3000ml fills. He often had to bypass the first fill because he'd still be awake and would get uncomfortable so he'd bypass around 2500ml or so, so he'd short himself 500ml that first dwell. Once he was asleep, as long as the cycler didn't have an alarm, he'd be able to tale 3000ml each fill, and he'd get UF with each drain. He's not super big (5'11'' and 150lbs or so) but it all depends on how big your cavity is.

There are other options besides fill volume. The last option for hubby was going to be a "pause" with an extra fill. He'd hook up, drain, fill with 2500ml, then have to wait at least 2 hours before hooking up for his regular # of exchanges. He never got to try it though and now he's back on hemo. I definitely think if you were feeling tired and not so great, it could have been due to inadequate dialysis. Tony feels so much better on hemo and is making fantastic clearances. He didn't feel this good on PD for a long time.
Good luck to you!
