Title: Arthritis?

In the last 2 months, I've started to develop something that looks a lot like arthritis in my shoulders. I have pain at and near the joints, reduced range of motion, etc. I'm only 51, and I'm wondering if this might be connected to elevated potassium or phosphorus levels in my blood? Has anybody else experienced this in the months leading up to dialysis? FWIW, I also get a lot of headaches now.

Hi Alex-

I don't have the same issue, but with my kidney disease at age 13, I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis and an auto immune disease (with no real name) at age 23.

I would get tested for ANA- arthritis/lupus/sjogren's syndrome... just to rule it out.  My neph, and my Rheumatologist have both told me that kidney patients are more prone to autoimmune diseases...no matter what your age.

Sounds like bursitis, but blood test can also determine if it's imflamatory arthritis, or a form of rheumatoid arthritis. I see a rheumatoplogist now after my pcp sent me to that office for care. Blood test will be ordered after you give a description of symptoms and maybe some physical therapy also.

A lot of times due to build up of toxins it can cause inflammation in various areas of the body.  Maybe your doctor can prescribe a steroid to help.
